Alright Oppo, this one's been brewing in me for the last couple days so I figured I'd get it out. Join me in confessing an unpopular opinion you hold.

I don't give two craps about Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear. I've watched the show a handful of times. It's reasonably entertaining, but I don't understand the level of tooth-gnashing over him being booted or quitting or whatever it may be.

I agree. I enjoyed Top Gear, but only for the challenges. I think this Clarkson thing going on right now is blown out of proportion in terms of importance.

Honestly, I agree with you. I receive normal BBC here on cable, but I hardly ever watched. Top Gear is entertaining, but rather forgettable (to me).

I used to love the show when I was younger then my interest just sort of went. I tried watching a couple this season and got sick of it pretty quickly.

I liked reading Clarksons stuff too and had a couple of books but I'm well aware of him being a bit of a dick. At the end of the day his employer can discipline him if they see fit.

I don't care for modern Ferraris and I think Ferrari Red is the worst color they come in. In fact I think red is the worst car color, especially sports cars.

Not going to flame you mate :) You don't love Top Gear, that's quite OK. The thing is, Top Gear won't BE Top Gear without Jezza.. I like May and Hammond more than I like Jezza, but it just won't work without him.

We can't all be the same, and that's a good thing, but for those of us who love Top Gear this is a disaster (not the part of people not being the same, but Jezza getting the boot).

I love the rubbish British humor, I love the snarky comments, I love how May is Captain sensible and Hammond is the young'un.

You don't get it, and that's fine :)

I don't care about super/hyper cars. Like yes they are neat machines and the science and engineering behind them is amazing. But couldn't give two shits about them edge wise. I get much more excited about much more mundane cars...

I agree with you. I *like* Top Gear but I don't *love* Top Gear. And pretty much feel the same way about Clarkson, on one hand he cracks me up, on the other hand he seems like a douche. If it's on, I will watch it, and I enjoy it, but I don't go out of my way to watch it.

And also I'm genuinely interested Chinese cars and I'm rather looking forward to the day where Chinese cars are available to buy here. I'm excited for the Chinese to do like the Koreans did years ago and eventually become a major player in the american automotive industry.

Unpopular opinion: The second generation smart fortwo isn't nearly as bad as the Internet likes to say it is

- Rear engine.
- Rear wheel drive.
- Can come in brown.
- Will park anywhere.
- Flappy paddle gearbox.
- Has a shooting brake style.
- Surprisingly safe for its size.
- Diabolically easy to maintain.
- Maintenance parts can be had for dirt cheap.
- Simple performance mods can go a long way.
- Plastic body parts resist damage and cheap to replace.

It's like a Porsche 911 for someone who can't even afford a Boxster.

I once ate puffin and whale in the same meal. The taste helped with the guilt. Also, if puffins didn't want to be eaten maybe they should get better at flying.

I think every H2 and H3 should be crushed and the parts recycled and turned into hybrids. The H2 is mostly guilty by association but I've met very few owners I didn't want punch in the face. Their egos are more bloated than the trucks.

Unpopular opinions...Miatas are overrated, Fords are better than Chevys (though that's not even an opinion, it's a fact), we all say 'I've mended something' far too often because of Jeremy Clarkson, and the best 3 series is the E36.

Being that it is Singer we're talking about, I'm sure that if you wanted more exposed fasteners on the head-light bezel, they would be happy to accommodate your request.

Getting the lines through the lens might be harder. They have gone through the trouble of making HID lights that essentially fit inside the old housings.

And, not to be condescending, but you do realize that though you may like the looks better, those older lights are vastly inferior in terms of function? I have no issue that you think are more visually appealing. Only that you agree that Singer went with a more modern and effective lighting system.

Portrait video doesn't bother me that much, and in my opinion, it's easier to film in portrait mode and can give a more stable video if done right (usually).

I agree with everything but the notion that the flappy paddle gearbox is a positive thing. It's the slowest, jerkiest, dumbest transmission I've ever experienced.

That being said, the ForTwo is otherwise a very entertaining car. I've had one twice as a loaner, and I couldn't help but drive it like a fast golf cart!

My only problem with Top Gear in its current iteration is that they have too much scripted stuff. I mean, I know Top Gear has always had some scripting, but in recent series they cranked it up to 11 and left it there.

They should go back to their 2008-ish era. Right then, they had the perfect mix of real and scripted. And the scripted stuff back then was so fake it was rather hilarious.

Nowadays, it almost seems like they pass the scripted segments off as real.

Well I think they went after a younger, less car oriented audience so it's not aimed at people like me anymore and that's fair. It was obviously working for them since the viewership was still pretty high. I wont be watching it anymore though.

I enjoy stuff like Roadkill enough that I dont want for car shows anymore.

- You sure you didn't mean H3? Let's compromise. You can crush the H2's and ordinary H3's, but leave the H1's and H3 Alpha's alone.

- I was going to say don't judge the vehicle by it's drivers, but then I remembered I want to crush every Prius I see.

Shhhhh...I own one!! :) They've been consistently updating the transmission throughout the 451's production run. They've smoothed out much of the jerky stuff (however, the 1-2 gearchange still has a bit of lag) but Auto mode is still pretty annoying.

Basically, I just drive mine in Manual Mode 100% of the time. No jerks and since I choose when to shift, no stupidity.

And I agree, the only way to drive a fortwo is to drive it balls to the wall. I mean, the little engine was engineered to be pushed hard anyway. ;)

In stock form, that engine is a turd, despite the numbers that are claimed for it. Tuned, it's pretty good. Don't know that I could pass up the V8 though...

Correct, Top Gear went and became an entertainment show with cars instead of a car show with entertainment.

Either that, or they pulled a "Simpson's", where they've been on the air so long that they've run out of fresh ideas, so they're just throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks.

Well mostly they stick to their established formula and riff on that. Most episodes are rehashes of earlier stuff these days, since theres only so much you can do with a car show thatd been on the air as long as they have. Its longevity so far is actually pretty impressive.

I hate most Prius drivers because they don't understand the meaning of the left/passing lane.

Funny H2 story time: a kid's dad in high school bought a new H2 back when they had been out only a few months. He was part of the off roading guys group. They all had mid 90s and older trucks they modified for off roading fun. He convinced his dad to let him take the H2 the weekend after they bought it on one of their normal adventures. Long story short it was so top heavy he rolled it going very slowly where everyone else's trucks/jeeps did fine. I saw the pictures. It was hilarious.

Agreed! And that's actually the problem I forsee with Top Gear USA. The UK blokes have done a lot of challenges, but they have plenty of room to do more! I mean like, they could have epic road trips with city cars, more impossible races, yadda yadda.

Unfortunately, that's the entire format of Top Gear USA, so they're going to lose steam pretty quickly unless they change up the format.

There is always more scope to do things on top gear but as long as its heavily scripted itll be hard to watch.

F1 is a joke, you can loose 90% of the teams and at the end of the season the championship results would not change.

On the other hand, for some reason I like Bernie Ecclestone.

I hate low profile tires + big wheels. Any wheel bigger than 15" has no place in anything that's not a big SUV. The bigger acceptable wheel size for any big SUV is 16".

Porsche boxter/mercedes SLK/Newer than 30 years G-wagen/wrangler/Scalade are all too femenine to be driven by a man.

There are very few cars in the world that I want more than I want a VW Saveiro. There are very few cars I find more beautiful.

Chris Harris is good, but not that good.

I fucking hate everything gawker does other than jalopnik, and I hate that Jalopnik is part of gawker.

That guy in Nascar killed that guy and should be in Jail.

Afroduck deserves no simpathy and should be in Jail.

The only cars in the Audi lineup that are not better looking than the R8 are the Q series.
